BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

Totaling up my Feb Haul I realised I bought the same-ish amount of books as I did in Jan, (over 50), this basically means that in less than 60 days I've bought 100 books...

I have a problem that I don't intend to resolve for a few decades :D

But basically in short, this post is just to say I'm going to be talking a lot more about books on this blog now, a lot more about what books I've bought/read/etc. If there is a film adaptation coming up my reaction to the trailer, if I've read the book etc.

If there is any book/film adaptation you think I should read please tell me on either here or on my other social networking sites

Fantasy, Feels and that all important Finance

Again, breaks, I seem to take a lot of them. But this one has been partially because I have changed my career pathway (well what I want to do at Uni), I'm going to be (hopefully) living in London in September as I will be studying English with Creative Writing down at London South Bank University- and I'm super excited to get my butt down there!! This however has meant I've had to set in motion my student finance and that just takes an age.

The title of this post, if you've noticed has the all important word 'feels' in, now since I last spoke to you I believe it was before Christmas. Since then Doctor Who Christmas Special has aired (with Danny in *Sob*),  Benedict got married, I've been to London and bought myself a beautiful complete edition of all of the Sherlock stories. As well as this, one of my favourite American shows was cancelled- Melissa and Joey, after 4 seasons it has announced it won't be renewed as the kids are grown up and Mel and Joe are married and looking to start a family of their own and this got me thinking- how many of my shows have been cancelled over the years? Not that many, and one that does come to mind, 'The Sarah Jane Adventures' wasn't cancelled, it ended abruptly due to the unfortunate death of the lead actress Elisabeth Sladen (subsequently this led to many re-watches of this magnificent show).

Finally, the start of my post title, 'Fantasy', recently I've acquired a few (more like a lot) new books recently, and many have been fantasy novels. Ranging from books based from the tv series Supernatural to Jim Butcher, and thanks to Booksplosion's January Book- The Final Empire by Brandson Sanderson, I've also bought a few books by Brandson Sanderson.

Here is a complete list, although not in order of love, of the recently acquired Fantasy books:

  • Supernatural- Fresh Meat- Alice Henderson
  • Supernatural- Carved in Flesh- Tim Waggoner
  • Furies of Calderon- Jim Butcher
  • Academ's Fury- Jim Butcher
  • Cursor's Fury- Jim Butcher
  • Captain's Fury-Jim Butcher
  • Princep's Fury- Jim Butcher
  • The Final Empire- Brandon Sanderson
  • The Well of Ascension- Brandon Sanderson
  • The Wise Man's Fear- Patrick Rothfuss
  • Legion and The Emperor's Soul- Brandon Sanderson

I'm sure there are probably many more fantasy books I've have purchased recently however these are the few I can call to mind at the moment.

It's that time of the year again!

8 days in and I've done what most of us achieve- got a cold and started to lose my voice! Level up right?

I finished Girl Online the other night and although the ending was kind of a let down due to how the book gripped me in the beginning I am looking forward to getting Girl Online 2 next year. I began reading a sample chapter of 'Afterworlds' by Scott Westerfeld on my kindle and loved it! Thankfully I have the physical edition as I just cannot wait to see how both the actual book and the character's novel turn out! They're so cleverly woven into one book! Below is the Goodreads summary of the book:
Darcy Patel has put college and everything else on hold to publish her teen novel, Afterworlds. Arriving in New York with no apartment or friends she wonders whether she's made the right decision until she falls in with a crowd of other seasoned and fledgling writers who take her under their wings… Told in alternating chapters is Darcy's novel, a suspenseful thriller about Lizzie, a teen who slips into the 'Afterworld' to survive a terrorist attack. But the Afterworld is a place between the living and the dead and as Lizzie drifts between our world and that of the Afterworld, she discovers that many unsolved - and terrifying - stories need to be reconciled. And when a new threat resurfaces, Lizzie learns her special gifts may not be enough to protect those she loves and cares about most.

And the cover is so beautiful! I have the UK edition which is on the right hand side. I bought my copy from WHSmiths but it's available from many more stores and also online. So go grab yourself a copy if you like sound of it!

Sorry I've been gone so long....

Over a month...oops

However I have good excuses..

-Writing Personal Statement (Ugh this was such a tedious thing to do and really stress-worthy too! Advise to anyone younger than me? START DOING THE EXTRA CURRICULAR STUFF NOW!!!)
-Working
-Schoolwork (well, one day of that was seeing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 twice)
-Got a role in my schools production of Return to the Forbidden Planet, I'm going to be playing Gloria/Science Officer.

But I guess my main news is that a few weeks ago I sent of my UCAS application (26th Nov) and on the 2nd December I got a beautiful e-mail- ONE OF MY OPTIONS OFFERED ME AN AUDITION! And due to my age (17) it's a rare thing to get at this particular place so I am super excited for it and fully ready to accept it if I don't get in because I have managed to get myself an audition which I was never ever expecting from them.

I didn't read as much as I'd hoped to in November, I went into a bit of a reading slump :/ But the books I managed to read were....

Grantchester Book 1
Billy and Me
Billy and Me at Christmas

I also read the first book in 'My True Love Gave To Me' which was amazing and really Christmassy!

Both written by the amazingly talented Giovanna Fletcher! Who I recently won a lovely Christmas card of-  http://instagram.com/p/wMIyhKMLSK/?modal=true

Toward the end of November I began reading Catching Fire after being captivated by the beautiful Mockingjay film. I finished the book on Monday and began reading Mockingjay and finished it not too long after.

I also received an awesome early Christmas present from my mum- a Kindle!

I'm so in love with it and find it really hand to have if I'm not sure which book to read- I just download a sample of the books I like and read one before deciding if I want to continue on with it.

I had a few books bought/sent to me/won in November of which I am really happy about as they've been on my to buy list for a while so I'm glad they are now on my shelf.

As of today I am currently reading 'Girl Online' by Zoe Sugg (Zoella) and it's really surprised me, I'm not a fan of Zoella but I really wanted to read her book and I'm glad I picked it up.

My TV Show of the November is- I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
My Film of Novemeber is- The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Where Do I Buy My Books?

A lot of the time I'm wanting to buy a book I often use websites like Amazon or Play. However, if I want a certain edition and want to pay as little as possible for delivery and the book I go on eBay.

But sometimes if I'm going to buy a book new I use Waterstones or WHSmiths.

I rarely use The Book People due to delivery prices however I do have a look sometimes. If I'm feeling adventurous I'll have a look on The Book Depository but only because you get a free bookmark with every order

If I am in town I will look in all of the charity shops and especially when they do offers like 'All books 50p', I also go into Waterstones in store to have a look at the latest books that are buy one get one half price and the books that they recommend.

The most amount of money I would pay for a paperback is around £8.99 and the most for a hardback would be £14.99.
Luckily whenever a hardback book comes out a lot of book stores tend to have special offers so I rarely spend the whole £15 on a hardback book leaving extra money for more books!

Where do you guys buy your books? :D
